Local Law Library & Judgment Enforcement

Most people do not work in legal firms and are not attorneys. It is not cost-effective to hire an attorney for many judgments. The legal paperwork and procedures required to enforce judgments can be complex. If the judgment owner needs to research his or her own law, law libraries are a valuable resource.
Many counties are home to law libraries. These are often located either near or next to courthouses. Most of the law libraries are sponsored in one way or another by a local Bar Association. Most law libraries, even in these economic times, are not crowded. Law libraries are mostly used by lawyers, but they also allow for other, well-dressed and quiet mortals.
There are usually only one to two people on duty in law libraries. The staff can answer your queries, but they do not train. It is not a place to learn law. Instead, it’s a place where you can come, do some research, and then leave. The workers are almost always polite. When they are able, they will often be very helpful.
A law library provides a wealth of information on a variety of topics, such as enforcement of judgments. Many law libraries offer judgment recovery books in every state. You can use Westlaw, Lexis Nexis or similar databases at most law libraries (at the very least, on a limited basis). This will allow you to search public records for information about your debtor. It is possible to expect to pay for printing on the printer.
In law libraries you can find information in a wide range of subjects, including bonding claims and how to collect on them, sample actions, Rutter’s BK Practice guide and the laws. Pleading And Practice is a great resource for California. Many have thousands and thousands of books, which would cost a staggering amount to buy.
There are some judgment enforcers that operate their enforcement business discreetly and mainly at a library. If a room is needed for a conference, some recovery experts rent it for a nominal cost. They may meet judgment owners and judgement debtors either at the recorder’s office or courthouse. Both are usually close to law libraries.
If you are using law libraries on a regular business basis, please be quiet, respectful and bring bagels and donuts to the library at least one time per week. If there’s a restriction on the amount of time you can spend in a law library, it might be worth finding another nearby.
There are always copiers available in law libraries. They can be used for a nominal fee. Some libraries will even allow you to print documents and agreements using your laptop if it has a printer. For (e.g.), At (e.g.) In a law-library, you can meet with people and have your documents notarized.
